One of the most unique things about Final Fantasy besides the fact that it is the only MMO currently on the market for PS, Xbox 360, and PC, would have to be that it is a globally played game. People from Germany, Japan, Canada, USA can all play on the same servers. One of the big challenges in a game like this when so many languages are used by it’s players is communication. So how did Square Enix solve this problem? They created the Auto Translate system which allows players to communicate in simple pre-made sentences that are then translated automatically on another players screen.

In a recent interview conducted by 1UP.com, Final Fantasy XI Producer Hiromichi Tanaka was asked about the possibility of a version of FFXI for the PlayStation 3. Most of you may know that when the PS3 originally launched, that certain models were compatible with PlayStation 2 software. Since then, Sony has abandoned the idea of backwards compatibility for the PS3. Tanaka had this to say about a PlayStation 3 version of Final Fantasy XI.

Awhile ago we posted news of a new copyright that Square-Enix had taken up called “Blood of Bahamut” To many people this sounded like it could be a new expansion to Final Fantasy XI, even though the information did not specify anything about online interactions.

A new website has sprung up in Japan which shows a teaser image and gives a countdown, if you look at the image in the address bar you’ll recognize one of the characters from the old game Bahamut’s Lagoon, to which it was rumored BoB could be a sequel too.

So there you have it.. Blood Of Bahamut is not the next Final Fantasy Expansion.

[Thanks to all those who sent this in!]

RMT have just been busted while trying to transfer $38 million in laundered money from Korea to China. The foreign affairs bureau of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency stated:

We arrested two individuals, including the ring leader who is a 37-year-old man named ‘Jeong.’ Jeong’s ring purchased game money in China between May last year and last month, then cashed the money through domestic game item brokerages.

It is reported that the money was obtained in China through the use of cheap labor and computer viruses. With account theft and RMT still ruining game play for many MMO subscribers, it’s glad to see that they’re getting some real world justice instead of just getting their accounts banned.

One of the things we’ve mentioned several times on PFA is the lack of advertising from Square-Enix for Final Fantasy XI. It would seem that with the recent addition of level sync, tutorial NPCs, and the recently released 14 day free trial, that Square is finally trying to make a push to get new subscribers to try out their MMO. While browsing Kotaku today I managed to stumble across a site add for you guessed it, Final Fantasy XI. The add made sure to point out the 14 day trial.

It’s great to finally see SE try to get new players into the game with ads and trials, but I can’t help but wonder if these things are a few years too late?

After a long wait, the first item in the Final Fantasy XI Player’s Collection is available to those living in Europe. It’s good to see that Square-Enix remembered there are players in that part of the world too. Now we just need to get them to make it available to players in Canada and Austrailia.

For Europe ordering information, click here.
