RMT have just been busted while trying to transfer $38 million in laundered money from Korea to China. The foreign affairs bureau of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency stated:
We arrested two individuals, including the ring leader who is a 37-year-old man named ‘Jeong.’ Jeong’s ring purchased game money in China between May last year and last month, then cashed the money through domestic game item brokerages.
It is reported that the money was obtained in China through the use of cheap labor and computer viruses. With account theft and RMT still ruining game play for many MMO subscribers, it’s glad to see that they’re getting some real world justice instead of just getting their accounts banned.

This has been a great week so far. We got our website back up, heard about the new Level Sync feature and now RMTs have made it into space!
Announced yesterday, was the news that a computer worm that steals passwords to various online games made it onto a laptop that was aboard the International Space Station.

The folks over at GameSpy recently sat down with some members of the Final Fantasy XI team to discuss the ever popular topic of Real Money Trading (RMT) and the Special Task Force (STF). They mention how they go into major community forums for each region and get feed back about RMT related issues to help determine what steps to take next. They also say that one day after RMTs are gone from Vana’diel, that the STF will eventually disperse.
Until we reach the point where RMT would never have commerce on FFXI, we will not ease on our investigations. Then, once we reach the point where the community actually feels the complete extermination, that will be when the STF duties will be done and the team will disperse.
I think all the players can agree that they can’t wait for that day to come.
