A new poll is now up in our forums!
When the writer’s guild was originally introduced, the comments had not yet been up on the website. Now that anybody can comment on the articles posted it seems almost pointless to have the writer’s guild section in the forums. This poll is to see what people prefer to do: comment on articles via comments on the front page, or via the forum threads for each earticle. Vote here and let us know what you think!

When I was six years old my parents decided it was time for me to learn a particular skill. My dad was a concert violinist and played for the Arizona symphony while my mother was an accomplished piano player. I do not understand why but my parents decided for me to follow after my mother’s footsteps and play the piano. The next 4 years of my life were dreadful. I hated the piano. I hated practicing, recitals, and the fact that all my friends had a go at me on a consistent basis for playing what they deemed “A Girls Instrument.” I always wanted to take Karate lessons, after all, my oldest brother was a second degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do and here I was playing major and minor scales for hours a day. In spite of my complaining and bickering I became a pretty good pianist. I finally “convinced” my parents to let me quit, and I did not regret it one bit.

What is good for you may not be good for me. This is most prevalent in two of America’s top industries; fashion and video games. A simple stroll through the mall will prove that there are some ugly, nasty things that people are willing to spend money on. At least that is what it looks like to me, but I have never been what most people would consider “fashionable.” As humans we have different tastes when if comes to what we wear. That is why old men will wear Sansibelt slacks and over weight women will wear jump suits that say “You wish” on the rear, but as Oprah will remind us, not all overweight women like velour so I digress. Since there are so many choices when it comes to clothes, I have decided that I will choose what is best for me. I will not shop at all the teeny-bopper stores just because their costumer base is nine million plus. Much of the same can be said about video games in general.

A few weeks ago we asked for members of the community to submit their original articles to be posted here on the website for the rest of the community to read. Today we post our first article series “A Fresh Noob Perspective” written by Elseadose.
We also have a couple more articles in the works. Remember that it’s never to late to submit your pieces! We’d love to help you share whatever kind of research, observations, or ideas you may have about Final Fantasy XI and its players.
With the launch of the Writers Guild we have created a new section in the forums so that readers may leave feedback for the articles. You can view the section here. We are very exited to see people interesting in sharing stories with the community and we look forward to seeing more submissions!

Perspective is defined as a glass through which something is observed. To me, that means that it may not be one hundred percent truth but it is how it appears to the beholder. I have learned at a very young age that I am wrong very often. You can thank my wife of four years for explaining that to me. I have however learned that you do not always have to view things to be absolute but relative. It changes depending on who is observing it. For example if I were to write “success is nowhere” some would read it success is nowhere while others will read it as success is now here. You see, it is a matter of perspective.
