Recently there has been quite a buzz in a Final Fantasy XI forum community. It seems that players have found a way to make great use of the Scholar ability “Modus Veritas“.

When used with the correct timing by multiple Scholars, the damage dealt is extraordinary. In the video below, a group of Scholars make killing a Om’yovra a walk in the park. Talks are now going on to see if an all Scholar strategy using Modus Veritas could be used to defeat Absolute Virtue.

We predict an emergency maintenance incoming.

itoandsaseThe August issue of Famitsu PSP + PS3 has been released and inside is an interivew with Mizuki Ito and Daisuke Sase. These are the people behind the creation of such monsters as Pandemonium Warden and Absolute Virtue. Suteki, a member of the editorial team for Vanatsuu (A Final Fantasy XI mook) sat down with these members of the development team to talk about the creation of their more recent monster: Pandemonium Warden.

One of the more interesting parts of the interview is the mention that Pandemonium Warden was originally intended to be Asura. There is also discussion about how they expected players to fight the final boss of the ZNM system as well as how they test monsters like Absolute Virtue and Pandemonium Warden before they’re introduced into the game.

In a move that’s sure to upset all the linkshells with thirteen zerg ready Dark Knights, Square-Enix has made adjustments to Absolute Virtue.

News from the short September 16th maintenance states:

[Important Update Details]
- Adjusted the damage resistance of “Absolute Virtue.”

So what does this mean for players? As far as defeating Absolute Virtue goes, we’re back at square one. No more zerging means that players will be forced to try and continue to figure out the stratagy behind this most notorious of monsters. Of course then that would mean players are back at the point where they simply do not care about this monster anymore. The lowering of its HP after the update may persuade a few more linkshells to take a stab at it, however after a number of years, the playerbase still has no idea how to defeat Absolute Virtue.

Want to join the many players trying to get Square-Enix to finally tell us how to defeat Absolute Virtue? Read on.

Last month we asked the community “How Long is Too Long?
Square-Enix responded with word that they would be adjusting Jailer of Love, Absolute Virtue and Pandemonium Warden because of players’ unanticipated fighting methods. Now that the update has hit, how difficult are these notorious monsters?

Two hours to fight PW and AV seemed crazy when word of the despawn timers hit. Then even crazier when SE clarified that the two hour timer for Absolute Virtue started when popping JoL.

While no linkshell has gone on record for fighting Pandemonium Warden since the update, there have been several Absolute Virtue attempts. One linkshell on Garuda known as SapereAude has defeated Absolute Virtue multiple times!

The past two weeks have seen considerable feedback from players regarding the amount of time required to combat the Pandemonium Warden, a recently implemented Notorious Monster (NM). Discussion has spread significantly throughout forums, and it has become apparent that this is indeed an issue of major unrest in the community.

We would like to assure players that the development and management teams place a high value on their feedback, and the issue has since been taken under serious consideration. Together with Absolute Virtue, it has been deemed that the combative techniques for weakening these NMs are too difficult. As a result, some players have engaged these enemies using unanticipated methods which led to extended battle times. It is by no means the desire of the development team to see players involved in encounters that require an excessive amount of time and effort to complete. It was for this reason that previous measures were put into practice which prohibited NMs from being held in battle for prolonged periods. In response to these events, we have determined that further alterations are required to prevent such battles from exceeding a certain predetermined length of time.

Included in the version update scheduled for early September will be modifications to the degree of difficulty of Pandemonium Warden (and associated pets), Absolute Virtue (and associated pets), and Jailer of Love. The aim of these changes is to create battles where a decisive outcome may be reached within a shorter period of time.

The development and management teams would like to take this opportunity to express their commitment to a healthy and wholesome game environment for players everywhere to enjoy, and to thank them for the continued feedback.

Pet Food Alpha (more notably Fusionx) Would like to thank everybody for their comments and for helping to spread the article around the internet. To date the article has received tens of thousands of hits and it’s because of everybody in the community that SE has heard our thoughts on their Notorious Monsters and is now moving to change their difficulty.
